Privacy policy
Last updated 2 November 2026
This policy explains what DinoMap collects, why, and what you can do about it. DinoMap is run by [OPERATOR NAME] ("we", "us"). Contact: [CONTACT EMAIL].
Short version: we collect what we need to run the map, we do not sell data, and there are no ads or trackers.
1. What we collect about you
- From Discord, when you sign in: your Discord user ID, username and avatar. We ask Discord only for your basic profile and whether you are a member of the DinoMap Discord server (to recognise staff). We never see your Discord password, messages or friends list.
- Account records: when you joined and last signed in, your friends and parties on DinoMap, and whether and when you used a day pass and who invited you.
- Payments: Stripe handles payment. We receive a Stripe customer ID and your subscription status and renewal date. We never see or store your card details.
- Your notes: tags, notes and server nicknames you write. Only you can see them.
2. Game data
DinoMap reads game files that The Isle saves on your computer. That reading happens in your browser; the files themselves are never uploaded. Your browser sends us only what the map needs: the server address, and for each dinosaur seen, its position, species, growth, and its player's in-game name and Steam ID.
This means DinoMap holds data about other players on your server, including people who do not use DinoMap. We use it to show your session the live map and to build player history: which dinosaurs were seen, on which server, when, their species and growth, who they were grouped with, and a coarse record of where they were. Player history is shared only with the people who were in the session when it was seen, and with DinoMap staff for running the service.
If you are a player of The Isle and want your data removed, email [CONTACT EMAIL] with your Steam ID and we will delete everything we hold about it.
3. Why we use it
- To sign you in, run the live map, and keep player history for your sessions.
- To bill your subscription and know who has access.
- To keep DinoMap secure and enforce our terms, including bans.
Where privacy laws such as the GDPR apply, we rely on our contract with you for your account and payments, and on our legitimate interest in providing and protecting the service for game data and security.
4. Cookies and browser storage
We use one cookie to keep you signed in (it lasts up to 30 days) and a short-lived one while you sign in with Discord. Your browser also remembers a few display choices, such as which tab you had open. There are no advertising or analytics cookies.
5. Who else handles data
We do not sell or rent personal data. We share it only with the services that run DinoMap:
- Discord, for sign-in;
- Stripe, for payments;
- Turso, which hosts our database;
- Cloudflare, which carries traffic to our servers.
We may also disclose data if the law requires it. These providers may process data outside your country.
6. How long we keep it
- Live map positions are held in memory only and are gone when a session ends or the server restarts.
- Your account, notes and player history are kept while your account exists.
- If you ask us to delete your account, we delete your account, notes and friends. We may keep billing records as tax law requires, and a record of a ban so it cannot be avoided by deleting.
7. Your choices and rights
You can ask us for a copy of your data, to correct it, or to delete it, by emailing [CONTACT EMAIL]. Depending on where you live you may also have the right to object to or restrict how we use it, and to complain to your data protection authority. We will answer within 30 days.
8. Children
DinoMap is not for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
9. Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will say so on the site before the change takes effect.
